I've been busy on a secret project ( ssshhh! Spoilers!) so I haven't posted in a while. But just in time for the holidays I've concocted a creepy Christmas poem just for you. Based on yet another of my antique photos like the stories in Out of Frame (which would make an excellent gift, by the way).
We all remember the Christmas ghosts of future, present, and past
Yet there is a spectre beyond – outside of time – a perpetual outcast.
We seek to avoid or banish this demon, though an effort to forget,
Still it creeps ever near, longing to deliver our regret.
A faded shade, bereft of color, seen only as glimpse or flash,
No powerful ruler or wizened scholar can avoid its face of ash.
All the memories never made reside in its blank eyes,
A hand not shaken, a hug not taken, no laughter, no sweet goodbyes.
Its claws tear away the days of love, leaving hollow hearts behind,
Its gnashing teeth chew up the hours, what could have been now nevermind.
We can’t escape the ravenous wraith that eats up our forever,
But memories made will always evade the Ghost of Christmas Never!
Good poem! Makes you think about things that you don't do, which have an effect just as much as the things that you will do. There is a New Year Resolution somewhere in that thought!
